About
A calculator that
turns pay into chicken
Salary Thief turns a salary into things you actually recognise — fried chicken, coffee, a month of rent — and then lets you watch it tick up second by second while you sit at your desk. That is the whole idea.
How it is built
- There is no login. There is no account to create.
- Whatever you type is calculated in your browser. It is not sent to a server and it is not put in the URL.
- Saving is opt-in. Unless you turn on "remember me on this device", nothing is stored.
- No result is hidden behind an ad.
What it deliberately does not do
- It does not tell you what income bracket or percentile you are in.
- There is no public leaderboard and no anonymous salary collection.
- It does not post anywhere on your behalf and does not connect to any account.
- It does not recommend financial products or promise any return.
- It does not calculate your tax. Rates depend on too much that this site cannot know.
Regions and currencies
The US, UK and euro versions each have their own currency and their own list of items, because converting a salary into Korean fried chicken prices would tell you nothing useful. The region switcher is in the header, and it keeps you on the same screen.
The numbers
Every unit price is listed in the price notes, where prices someone actually checked are shown differently from figures chosen as a plausible assumption. The formulas are all written out on the how-it-works page — there are no hidden adjustment factors.
Font licences
This site uses the following fonts, downloaded at build time and served from this domain rather than from a third party.
- Noto Sans KR — SIL Open Font License 1.1 (body text)
- Black Han Sans — SIL Open Font License 1.1 (headings)
The icons are all drawn for this site. No brand logo or product photograph is reproduced anywhere.
